Charleston, W.Va. – During a recent episode of “Just Three Questions!”, a video series focusing on West Virginia business leaders and entrepreneurs, Dr. Liz Vitullo, Assistant Vice President for Economic Innovation at West Virginia University, joined Secretary of State Kris Warner to discuss funding opportunities for small business owners and entrepreneurs in West Virginia.

“This interview series is a resource for entrepreneurs and those thinking about starting a new business,” said Secretary Warner. “Finding ways to access capital is a critical component to any business plan and can often be a major challenge for small business owners.”

Dr. Liz Vitullo is a leader in economic development, grant writing, higher education, and community outreach. She also co-manages the West Virginia Grant Resource Centers, a statewide initiative between West Virginia University and Marshall University.

“The whole purpose is to bring more grant dollars, whether it be federal, private foundations, state dollars into the state to support eligible entities,” Dr. Vitullo said about the Grant Resource Centers. "Now, most small businesses don't think that they are eligible for grants. And we've really focused on that in the last, you know, number of months, supporting things like energy efficiency, updates to equipment, especially for manufacturers."

The West Virginia Grant Resource Centers offer businesses expertise in identifying and securing grant funding, putting together competitive proposals, and submitting grant application packages. The West Virginia Grant Resource Centers serve all 55 counties with centers located in Huntington and Morgantown. Specialists also work with clients remotely.

Vitullo added, “We are excited to say that we are free of charge. So, we can provide you with a grant writer free of charge. You can attend our monthly trainings free of charge. We are here to support entities throughout the state."
