Charleston, W.Va. — The recent legislative session was a very productive one for the WV Secretary of State’s Office, with several pieces of legislation passing both the State Senate and House of Delegates. According to WV Secretary of State Mac Warner, his team focused on listening to and working closely with legislators to find solutions to some very complex issues.
Part of the Secretary of State’s legislative team this year included Elaine Tuckwiller, a senior Political Science student from the University of Charleston. Tuckwiller worked with Warner’s senior staff to help stay informed on legislative initiatives regarding elections and changes to the state’s business and licensing registration process.
“Elaine has been a valuable member of our team. She played a key role in researching, tracking and assisting with technical legislation review. Keeping the Legislature adequately informed on key issues involving business, licensing and elections is important during a busy 60 day session,” Warner said.
Working as a full time intern for the Secretary of State’s Office was not the first internship for Tuckwiller. In 2018, she was selected to be part of the Frasure-Singleton Internship Program hosted by the WV Legislature. During that session, she was assigned to the House of Delegates and worked with several members and committees to gain a further understanding of the legislative process.
Tuckwiller expects to graduate in May with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and a minor in History. She maintains a 4.0 GPA.
While at UC, she served the student body and the Athletic Department as a cheerleader. She was the Cheer Captain for the 2018-19 season. Tuckwiller is a member of the International Social Science Honorary, the National History Honor Society and the National College Athlete Honor Society. At the start of the current school year, she was selected to be a Senior Fellow in the Political Science Program where she serves as a research assistant. After graduation from UC, she is planning to obtain a master’s degree in public administration.
Tuckwiller is a resident of Cross Lanes and a graduate of Nitro High School. She is the daughter of Jonathan Tuckwiller and Shelly Thomas.
