2020 County Election Expenses (CARES Act) Reimbursement Information

Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act)

On March 27, 2020, President Donald J. Trump signed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) into law. The Act included $400 million in new Help America Vote Act (HAVA) emergency funds, made available to states through the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus for the 2020 federal election cycle. The EAC allocated $3,807,691 to West Virginia for additional resources to protect the 2020 elections from the effects of the novel coronavirus.

Listed below are the counties that have requested reimbursement, the amount requested by the respective county commission, the amount awarded by the Secretary of State, the application submitted, and the award letter related to election expenses for the June 9 Primary Election.
