Questions About Your Pending Notary Public Commission or Commissioner for West Virginia Appointment?

Please note it takes about two (2) to three (3) weeks for a notary commission and/or commissioner for West Virginia appointment to be issued after the completed application and payment are received by this office. If you have not received your commission letter, or commissioner for West Virginia letter, within three weeks after mailing your application, please contact the Notary Division at the contact information above.

Unfortunately, some letters become lost in the mail, so let us know if you are concerned that our office has not received your application.

Only the names and addresses of notaries and commissioners are public information. Other information in the application or the notary's record is not subject to release.

The West Virginia Secretary of State Notary Information System will allow you to search:

  • All notaries and commissioners whose commissions and appointments are currently active
  • All active notaries and commissioners in a specific county
  • All active e-Notaries
