History of the Office: 2001-Present

Joe Manchin III (D) 2001-2005

Joe Manchin was elected as the 27th Secretary of State in 2000 and served in that capacity until 2005. Joe was elected Governor of West Virginia in 2004 and again in 2008. On November 15, 2010 Joe Manchin was sworn into the United States Senate to fill the seat left vacant by the late Senator Robert C. Byrd.

Betty Ireland (R) 2005-2009

Betty Ireland was elected as the 28th Secretary of State in 2004. She served in that capacity until 2009.

Natalie E. Tennant (D) 2009-2017

Natalie Tennant was elected as the 29th Secretary of State in 2008. She served in that capacity until 2017.

Mac Warner (R) 2017-Present

Mac Warner West Virginia Secretary of State

Andrew McCoy "Mac" Warner was elected at the 30th Secretary of State in 2017.

Secretary Warner graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and West Virginia University's College of Law.

He has two Master of Law Degrees, one in Military Law from The Army Judge Advocate General's School and one in International Law from the University of Virginia Law School.

A decorated soldier, Secretary Warner served as the Chief of International Law for the United States Army Europe, was an instructor at the Army Judge Advocate General's School, and served on the Staff at the U.S. Army War College.

He has been both a defense attorney and a chief prosecutor. Read More...
