SEE SOMETHING? SAY SOMETHING! - Secretary of State Kris Warner reminds public to report possible election irregularities to his office

Charleston, W.Va. – WV Secretary of State Kris Warner is issuing a reminder to the general public to report possible election fraud, infractions, and irregularities to his office.

Warner said that he will have a team of more than 15 investigators, managers, and election observers traveling throughout the state to satisfy his legal obligations as the Chief Election Official for West Virginia. Election Day field work is intended to assist county clerks, provide guidance, and monitor the May 12th Primary Election to ensure uniformity and compliance. The team will be making visits to polling locations in all 55 counties and aims to be within a one-hour drive of any polling place that may need an immediate response.

According to Secretary Warner, the general public plays an important role in keeping West Virginia elections safe and secure. He is encouraging citizens who may witness or believe that an election law violation has occurred to report it immediately to his office. Secretary Warner said that tips from the public are very helpful in stopping criminal activity.

"Sometimes people just make honest mistakes," said Secretary Warner. "But if anyone attempts to cheat in an election, we need to know about it so we can put a stop to it."

Secretary Warner also reminds the public that the county clerk should be contacted for polling place concerns that do not involve potential fraud or cheating, such as a poll book error. While rare, the public should contact local law enforcement, in addition to the county clerk and WVSOS, in disruptive or dangerous emergencies at polling places.

To report suspicious election irregularities, please call the WVSOS Investigations Division toll free at 877-FRAUD-WV to report any potential violation. The caller may remain anonymous.

"If you see something that may not seem right to you, then say something to us. We'll look into it promptly," Secretary Warner said. "With so many checks and balances, trained and experienced professionals stationed all around the State, and an excellent team of county clerks in our counties, the voters can be confident in the integrity and accuracy of the outcomes of West Virginia elections."
