Secretary Warner announces nearly 67,000 ballots have been cast in absentee voting and the first four days of early voting for the 2026 General Election

Secretary of State Kris Warner

Charleston, W.Va. - Early in-person voting for West Virginia's 2026 General Election kicked off on Wednesday, October 21st, and continues through Saturday, October 31st. All 55 counties have at least one early voting location available to voters. A list of early voting locations is available here.

WV Secretary of State Kris Warner announced total turnout stands at 66,855 ballots, representing 5.5% of West Virginia’s 1,210,297 registered voters.

"Casting a ballot is one of the most powerful ways to make your voice heard. Whether you head to the polls early or cast your ballot on Election Day, your vote counts, and every eligible West Virginian deserves a clear, accessible path to participate in shaping our shared future," said Secretary Warner.

Below is a breakdown of votes as of end of day Saturday, October 24th:

  • In-person early votes cast: 62,366
  • Absentee ballots requested: 8,290
  • Absentee ballots returned: 4,489
  • Total ballots cast to date: 66,855

Secretary Warner encourages voters to review their sample ballots before going to the polls. Sample ballots for all 1,677 precincts are available at GoVoteWV.com and from county clerks' offices.

This is the first general election in West Virginia at which voters are required to present a photo ID for voting purposes, although limited exceptions apply. Prior to the passage of House Bill 3016 (2025), voters were permitted to present various forms of both photo and non-photo ID for voting purposes. Now, all forms of voter ID must include a photo of the voter unless a limited exception applies. Additional information about West Virginia’s newly amended voter photo ID law is also available at GoVoteWV.com.

Warner said his next voter turnout update, the First Week Report, will cover voting activity from October 21st to October 28th and will also include county-by-county and political party breakdowns.
