Secretary Warner announces more than 115,000 ballots have been cast in absentee voting and during the first seven days of early voting for the 2026 General Election

Charleston, W.Va. -  WV Secretary of State Kris Warner announced today that early voter turnout is approximately 30% higher than during the same period of West Virginia's 2022 midterm election. The increase reflects strong voter participation ahead of Election Day.

Below is a breakdown of votes by county and political party as of end of day Wednesday, October 28th:

  • In-person early votes cast: 109,902
  • Absentee ballots requested: 9,584
  • Absentee ballots returned: 5,953
  • Total ballots cast to date: 115,855

Total turnout stands at 115,855 ballots cast, representing 9.6% of West Virginia’s 1,210,297 registered voters.

Secretary Warner said, "All 55 counties have at least one early voting polling location making it convenient for voters to cast ballots on their schedule. I encourage all registered voters to take advantage of early voting which continues through Saturday at 5:00pm or vote on Election Day on November 3rd from 6:30am and 7:30pm."

Early in-person voting began Wednesday, October 21st. A list of early voting locations is available at GoVoteWV.com.

Voters can also review their specific sample ballot before going to the polls. Sample ballots for all 1,677 precincts are available at GoVoteWV.com and from county clerks' offices.

This is the first statewide general election in West Virginia at which voters are required to present a photo ID for voting purposes, although limited exceptions apply. Prior to the passage of House Bill 3016 (2025), voters were permitted to present various forms of both photo and non-photo ID for voting purposes. Now, all forms of voter ID must include a photo of the voter unless a limited exception applies. Additional information about West Virginia’s newly amended voter photo ID law is also available at GoVoteWV.com.

In 2022, 84,504 votes were cast during the first week of early voting.
