Charleston, W.Va. - WV Secretary of State Kris Warner on Tuesday released an educational video demonstrating how to use the Campaign Finance Reporting System (CFRS).
The approximately 10-minute video guides users through the online tool, showing how to search finance reports and track contributions and expenditures made to support or oppose political candidates and committees.
Secretary Warner said, "Campaign Finance reporting is essential to transparent elections. I encourage voters, candidates, and committee members to explore this resource to better understand contributions and expenditures for campaigns across the state. The video offers guidance on using the online tool and finding the information they need."
The video is divided into six sections:
- Find campaign finance reports;
- See who has donated to a candidate or committee;
- See which candidates and committees a person has donated to;
- Search for a candidate by office and district;
- Look up independent expenditures; and
- Look up late filers.
The Campaign Finance Reporting System (CFRS) is available at cfrs.wvsos.gov. The tool can also be accessed through GoVoteWV.com.
The third-quarter campaign finance reporting deadline for pre-candidates, candidates, and political committees is Wednesday, October 7. All open accounts, even those that have no activity to report, must file by the deadline to avoid statutory late fees.
