CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Working together with the West Virginia Legislature to provide more convenient services to the state’s business community, Secretary of State Mac Warner is pleased to announce that expedited services will now be offered for those seeking immediate services from his Office.
The passage of Senate Bill 547 (which goes into effect today, September 7, 2017) allows the Secretary of State to charge an additional fee for those requesting an expedited service. These services are offered to individuals and companies that need immediate or same day attention. Several other states offer expedited services and fees for those services.
During their recent regular session, both the state Senate and House of Delegates passed the legislation at Warner’s request.
“There are circumstances from time to time that call for immediate attention in order to assist a new or existing company. Like other states have done, we want to be prepared to answer that call in order to assist the business community that we serve here in West Virginia,” Warner said.
Typically, it takes the WVSOS Business & Licensing Division 5-7 days after receipt of a request to process activities such as (1) the formation of a new business entity; (2) the licensure or registration for a new entity; and (3) changes to the legal structure of a current business. Under the new “Expedited Services Guidelines” (attached
), some of these services will now be available in as little as one hour.
As of today, there are 108,228 companies and individuals licensed to do business in West Virginia. There are 3,419 charities and non-profits operating in the state and we have 41,172 notary publics licensed to serve businesses and individuals. The Secretary of State’s Office is also responsible for the annual registration of private investigators, credit & lending Services, scrap metal dealers, sports agents, and those individuals who perform marriages. As of July 1st, the Office is responsible for the registration of any trade name of a sole proprietorship operating in the state.
