Secretary of State's Office Awards Former Barbour County Clerk with NASS-WV Award

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Secretary of State Mac Warner is pleased to announce that former Barbour County Clerk Macel Auvil is the recipient of an award for her long and distinguished career serving the public.
Auvil was awarded the NASS-WV Award for Achievement in Public Service in a ceremony at the Barbour County Courthouse this morning. This lifetime achievement award was given to Auvil for 47 years of public service with the Barbour County Clerk’s Office.

“Macel Auvil is a true example of what we should all strive for in public service,” Secretary Warner said. “By serving the people of Barbour County for so many years, Macel has given her time and her heart to her community. For that we say thanks and well done.”

The Barbour County Clerk’s Office hired Auvil as a deputy clerk in 1969. Clerk Auvil served under County Clerk Glenna Propst until 1992 when she continued her service under Barbour County Clerk Debra Talbott until 2009. When Clerk Talbott resigned due to health reasons, the Barbour County Commission appointed Auvil to finish Talbott’s term. Auvil then ran and won election as Barbour County Clerk in 2010. She retired in December 2016.

The NASS-WV Award is a collaboration between the Secretary of State’s Office and the National Association of Secretaries of State.
